Amazon Relay Insurance Rejected or Account Suspended? How to Fix It
By Will Kremer, Truck Insurance Agent · Last updated September 18, 2026
Few things stop a Relay carrier faster than an email saying your insurance doesn’t meet Amazon’s requirements, or a notice that your account is paused. The good news: when Amazon Relay insurance is rejected, the cause is usually one of a handful of fixable problems, and the fix runs through your agent and RMIS, the vendor Amazon uses to verify insurance. Here’s how to find the problem, fix it, and keep it from happening again. For the full list of what Amazon requires, see our Amazon Relay insurance requirements.

The short answer If Amazon Relay rejected your insurance, check three things: your limits meet Amazon’s minimums, RMIS is the certificate holder, and no required coverage was cancelled or removed. Then have your agent send a corrected certificate to RMIS and call RMIS to confirm it was received. That’s exactly what we do when a flagged carrier calls us. |
Why Amazon Relay rejects insurance
Amazon doesn’t check your insurance itself. A third-party vendor, RMIS, gets your certificate of insurance from your agent or insurance company and checks it against Amazon’s minimums. When something doesn’t line up, your insurance gets flagged. The causes we see most:
| Problem | The fix |
|---|---|
| A limit below Amazon’s minimum | Endorse the policy to the required limit |
| Missing coverage | Add general liability or trailer interchange |
| Wrong certificate holder | Reissue with RMIS as holder |
| Policy cancelled | Reinstate or rewrite, then resend |
| Renewal not updated | Send the renewal certificate to RMIS |
Amazon’s minimums are $1,000,000 in auto liability, $100,000 in cargo, general liability of $1,000,000 per occurrence and $2,000,000 aggregate, and $50,000 in trailer interchange if you pull Amazon trailers. The certificate holder is RMIS, not Amazon Relay. A certificate made out to Amazon is a common reason a correct policy still gets kicked back.
How to fix a rejected Relay insurance certificate
- Read the notice from Amazon. Note what it says was flagged, and whether your insurance is expiring.
- Check your policy against Amazon’s list. Every coverage and limit above, active today, with nothing removed or cancelled.
- Call your agent. If a limit or coverage is short, your agent endorses the policy. If the policy cancelled, it needs to be reinstated or rewritten first.
- Have your agent send the corrected certificate to RMIS, with RMIS as the certificate holder. It has to come from your agent or insurance company, not from you.
- Call RMIS to confirm they have it. A certificate that’s sent but not yet processed looks the same to Amazon as one that was never sent.
- Check your Relay account once RMIS has updated your records.
Steps four and five are what we do the moment a flagged carrier calls us: we send the certificate to RMIS, then call RMIS to make sure it’s in. Our certificates go out in five minutes or less on average, and we have a direct contact at Amazon when a Relay issue needs one.

Renewals: where most Relay suspensions start
Your policy renewing isn’t the same as Amazon knowing it renewed. RMIS sends regular requests for updated certificates, and Amazon asks carriers to update their insurance in the Insurance tab of their Relay account at least 5 days before the policy ends, and recommends renewing two to three weeks early so RMIS has time to update its records. Carriers in Relay forums describe being paused before the deadline they thought they had, which is why we never leave a Relay renewal to the last week.
The simple rule: renew early, and make sure the renewal certificate reaches RMIS before the old policy expires.
If your whole Relay account is suspended
When the suspension is about insurance, the steps above get you back. Cancelled insurance or a removed coverage puts you below Amazon’s minimums, and Amazon acts on that quickly, so fix the policy first and get the certificate to RMIS.
Accounts also get paused for reasons that have nothing to do with insurance, such as safety scores slipping past Amazon’s thresholds or activity Amazon flags on the account. Safety thresholds are covered in our guide to Amazon Relay requirements. For anything else, contact Amazon Relay support directly; your agent can’t resolve a non-insurance suspension.
How to keep it from happening again
- Tell your agent you run Relay, so every endorsement and renewal is built to Amazon’s list.
- Call before you cut a coverage. Dropping general liability or trailer interchange to save money is the fastest way off Relay. We’ll look for savings that keep you compliant.
- Keep payments current, since a cancelled policy shows up as non-compliant.
- Renew two to three weeks early and confirm the new certificate reached RMIS.
- Add trucks the right way. A new or rented unit goes on the policy before its first Relay load.
Frequently asked questions
Why did Amazon Relay reject my insurance?
The usual causes are a limit below Amazon’s minimum, a missing coverage such as general liability, a certificate made out to Amazon instead of RMIS, or a cancelled policy. Each one is fixable: your agent corrects the policy and sends a new certificate to RMIS.
What is RMIS for Amazon Relay?
RMIS is the third-party vendor Amazon uses to verify carrier insurance. It gets your certificate from your agent or insurance company and checks it against Amazon’s minimums, so RMIS is the certificate holder on a Relay certificate.
How do I update my insurance on Amazon Relay?
Update your details in the Insurance tab of your Relay account at least 5 days before your policy ends, and have your agent send the new certificate to RMIS. Amazon recommends renewing two to three weeks early so RMIS has time to update its records.
How do I fix a suspended Amazon Relay account?
If the suspension is about insurance, fix the policy, have your agent send a corrected certificate to RMIS, and call RMIS to confirm it was received. For suspensions tied to safety scores or account activity, contact Amazon Relay support directly.
How fast can a Relay certificate be fixed?
The certificate itself can go out within minutes once the policy meets Amazon’s minimums. We send it to RMIS and call RMIS to confirm it’s in, so the rest depends on RMIS updating its records.
Need a Relay certificate fixed?
Call us with your DOT number and the notice from Amazon. We’ll check your coverage against Amazon’s list, fix what’s short, send the certificate to RMIS, and call RMIS to make sure it’s in. The same people handle your renewal every year, so it doesn’t happen again.
